ESPACIO WITHOUT CO2

In view of the upcoming celebration of the World Day of Action against Global Warming, also called the World Day for the Reduction of CO2 Emissions, Espacio Mediterráneo stands out among the best qualified centers in Spain by meeting the requirements evaluated by the international BREEAM® seal. This seal, which studies and certifies the sustainability of buildings, has highlighted energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy and the center's environmental management policy, once again giving Espacio Mediterráneo the rating of “Excellent”.
This qualification has been obtained to a large extent thanks to the continuous work of the Shopping Center to reduce carbon emissions. Since 2018, Espacio Mediterráneo has had a green energy contract, where 100% of the electrical energy consumed comes from renewable sources and the CO2 footprint corresponding to electrical consumption is nil.
The reduction of energy consumption is another noteworthy point within the environmental policy of Espacio Mediterráneo, for which it has an EMS system, for the control and permanent monitoring of energy consumption.
All the lighting in the Shopping Center is LED technology. The glazed façade is covered with a microperforated vinyl that reduces the incidence of solar radiation and reduces air conditioning consumption. The large HVLS ceiling fans allow the cooling temperature setpoints to be raised by two degrees, without affecting thermal comfort, adding to the reduction of energy consumption in air conditioning. All these measures are controlled by a BMS management system that centrally and automatically regulates the center's air conditioning and ventilation installations.
As part of its responsible commitment to the environment, Espacio Mediterráneo carries out exhaustive maintenance on its thermal installations in compliance with what is approved in the Regulation for Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE). Likewise, the Shopping Center has ISO 14001:2015 Certification (Environmental) and ISO 50001:2018 Certification (Energy Efficiency), guaranteeing efficient management of energy use.
The commitment to sustainability and the improvement of energy efficiency have always been a clear objective in the management of Espacio Mediterráneo.
